One of the most recent product recalls here in the United States occurred within the last two months when the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that they would be recalling over 150,000 full-length Chenille robes intended for use by women. According to the CPSC, the robes did not meet the standards set for them by the federal government as they were apparently flammable. It is not hard to imagine the danger that could be posed with flammable robes. If a woman wearing one of these robes were to step too close to the fireplace or even the stove, the robe could literally catch fire in moments, causing potentially serious burns and other hazardous injuries.

The company that makes the robes, Blair LLC of Warren, PA reported that they had been told about three separate cases in which their bathrobes caught fire. In one of the incidents, the woman suffered serious second-degree burns. In total, the company has received word of six deaths that have resulted since the recall was sent out by the CPSC in April. All six were caused by their robes catching fire while being worn by the victims. Most of the victims were older women and were physically unable to remove the robes quickly enough to save themselves from the flames. As soon as the recall occurred in April, Blair actually sent letters to their customers to inform them of the recall, but for those six victims, the warnings could not save them.

Not all of Blair’s robes were recalled by the CPSC because not all have been determined to be flammable. The flammable robes were produced in Pakistan, followed by their sale in certain Blair stores in both Pennsylvania and Delaware over the past six years. If you do not live in either of these states, you may not necessarily be safe from the risks of a flammable robe, however. These defective garments were also sold in Blair catalogs.

Blair and the CPSC are strongly encouraging those who own these defective robes to cease from wearing them in case of injury. In fact, Blair wants so much for their customers to stop wearing these potentially dangerous garments that they are offering either a full refund for the robes or a $50 gift card to their stores. If you own one of these robes, you are strongly encouraged to stop wearing it immediately and call Blair LLC of Warren, PA as soon as possible to discuss your options for a refund or a gift card.

Many are injured because of defective products each and every year despite the recalls and warnings that come from the CPSC all the time. If you’ve been injured by a defective product, you should contact a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer in your area as soon as possible. Los Angeles California Product liability cases are often resolved outside of court, helping you to receive the compensation you need to pay for your injuries, lost income, and pain and suffering. Don’t allow manufacturers to get away with selling defective products: contact a personal injury lawyer today and fight for the sale of well-produced products here in the United States.
